Nightly north- and southbound lane restrictions planned on State Route 51 Aug. 18-21
51Southbound SR 51 restricted between Bethany Home and Indian School roads this weekend (Aug. 21-24)
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Phoenix area drivers to plan for the following lane restrictions and ramp closures for diamond grinding work as part of the State Route 51 pavement rehabilitation project between Interstate 10 (Papago Freeway) and Shea Boulevard:
Weeknight Lane Restrictions (Aug. 18-21)
Northbound SR 51 will be narrowed to one lane between Colter Street (north of Camelback Road) and Bethany Home Road nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Tuesday, Aug. 18, and ending Thursday morning, Aug. 20. The following ramps will be CLOSED at this time:
The northbound SR 51 on-ramp at Colter Street/18th Street and off-ramp at Bethany Home Road
Southbound SR 51 will be narrowed to one lane between Bethany Home and Indian School roads nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Tuesday, Aug. 18, and ending Friday morning, Aug. 21.
Weekend Lane Restrictions (Aug. 21-24)
Southbound SR 51 will be narrowed to two lanes between Bethany Home and Indian School roads from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24. The following ramps will be CLOSED at this time:
The southbound SR 51 on-ramp at Highland Avenue off-ramp at Indian School Road
REMINDER: Ongoing Long-Term Lane Restrictions
Northbound SR 51 is narrowed to two lanes from Highland Avenue to Camelback Road. The restrictions are expected to be in place through September.
NOTE: The northbound HOV and adjacent left lane are open for all traffic within the work zone, including during normally restricted rush hours. Please adhere to the lower speed limit, focus on safe merging and stay alert. ADOT advises drivers to plan for delays during peak travel times approaching the work zone and to consider alternate routes, including northbound Interstate 17.
NOTE: The currently uneven pavement conditions and asphalt remaining on SR 51 bridge decks are a temporary result of the required asphalt removal work completed the weekend of May 8-11. This is NOT the finished surface of the freeway. The remaining asphalt will be removed during upcoming bridge work. The freeway and ramps will be resurfaced to create a smooth driving surface using a treatment called diamond grinding. ADOT appreciates your patience as the project progresses over the next several months.
ADOT advises drivers to use caution and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones.

Old Crescent Hotel to Be Apartments!
Every time I pass Dunlap and the I-17, it makes me sad to see the beautiful old trees dying and the disrepair of the old Crescent Hotel. The news is that it will be converted to a residential development. Plans are in place to build 258 apartment units, ranging from studio to two-bedroom living spaces.
They say, “there will be and emphasis on attainable luxury, the development will offer high quality amenities at an accessible price points. The property will be renamed to The Crescent and will be an important factor to the housing situation as the Metro District continues to develop.”
